In the spring of 2023, Xaverian celebrated the soft open of our library resources. Students and faculty checked out hundreds of books throughout the year (running the gamut from middle-school fiction to college-level science databases), accessed our journals for their research projects, and participated in our literary events. We hope to bring even more to the book-lover community this year!
Library Procedures and Etiquette
Our digital databases overview (see right) explains our current research options and the procedure for accessing books in our collection. Digital books may be checked out on your iPad at any time and are automatically returned to the collection after two weeks. Physical books can be found in display cases in the Student Lounge and the Genesis Commons, as well as shelves located in the Genesis wing of the building. If you want to check out a physical book, you have to see a librarian first. When you return a library book, please be sure to give it directly to a librarian.
Remember! The physical books belong to Xaverian’s collection. It’s important to
treat the books with care; do not write in them and avoid damaging them. Lost or damaged books may incur a fine equal to the cost of the book. Overdue books will incur a $1 fine every day up to a $30 fine, at which point, the book will be considered lost.
Future Offerings
We are in the middle of curating additional resources for students that we plan to roll out throughout the year. When you visit the Xaverian library website, the right-hand Links section currently showcases free databases that are separate from Xaverian’s library offerings. Coming up, we will be adding:
A Meta Quest 2 Virtual Reality headset equipped with educational VR experiences
Curated, educational TikTok channels and clips
YouTube video essays and other “deep dives”
Useful apps and websites for research and classwork
Literary Holidays
In the month of September, we’ll be celebrating National Literacy Month alongside some other literary holidays throughout the year.
We are looking forward to a new and exciting school year! See you in the stacks!
